The Water Boyz break it down for you! Here are some essential facts about water:
- Approximately two thirds of your body is made of water!

- Your brain is made up of approximately 85% water and your bones are approximately 33% water.
- The first major water storage reservoir in the world was built 450 BC in South America and was used into the nineteenth century.
- 70% of the world’s surface is water.
- A person can’t survive for more than around 3 days without water but we can survive 30 days without food.
Correction: Our valued reader Steve pointed out that this fact is not entirely correct. We quote: “Medical research literature on terminal dehydration place the duration to death from the moment of withholding water (and nutrition) as typically 7 days and can extend beyond 3 weeks without water.”
We appreciate the feedback! The WaterBoyz – always open to criticism.
- Water doesn’t smell, is tasteless and colorless!
- A rat is the animal that can survive the longest without water. (unchecked, but amazing!)
- The volume of water that the Giant Sequoia tree consumes in a 24-hour period contains enough suspended minerals to pave 17.3 feet of a 4-lane concrete freeway.
- Since 1950, water usage in the United States has risen 127 percent.
- There is enough water in the atmosphere, that if it all fell as rain at the same time, it would cover the entire surface of the Earth with 2.5 cm (1 in) of water.
So, there you go – the Water Boyz deliver the facts!

The statement “A person can’t survive for more than around 3 days without water” is incorrect. Medical research literature on terminal dehydration place the duration to death from the moment of withholding water (and nutrition) as typically 7 days and can extend beyond 3 weeks without water. My 93 year-old grandmother took 11 days … fortunately, medical research also shows that terminal dehydration is completely painless.

Thanks for that correction, Steve. The last thing the WaterBoyz want to do is to disseminate false information. One of the Water Boyz will correct this error shortly.
